Comparison of Two Interpolation Methods

In ArcMap, the Geostatistical Analyst tool allows the user to use the Inverse Distance Weighting Method to interpolate data. In this lab we looked at Annual Rain in Idaho. I used the Geostatistical Wizard to find the optimal power value. Cross-validation is used: a control point is removed to test and adjust the algorithm. With the default parameters the Raw Mean Statistic is 4.047 (Q1). With the optimized value the RMS is 3.929.

This map also involved clipping the data to the Idaho border. The first step was converting the map to a raster grid. The tool used was the Spatial Analyst – analysis mask. The Spatial Analyst wizard was also used to show the isolines on the map. See Inverse Distance Weighting Method Map.
